Writing my first post is slightly daunting, because it sets the tone for the blog, and my vision for Sujata‘s Porridge is yet to be fully defined, but I’ll let go of my perfectionist ways and begin haphazardly anyway. I’ve been hesitant to join the blogosphere but feel compelled to do so, both by the suggestion/example of my brother, friends, and former co-workers who are bloggers, as well as by the practicality of having an easy way to communicate while running around the globe. Maybe there is also desire to be part of the latest craze?
My hesitance is partly due to the fact that it seems rather egotistical and self-indulgent to have a space dedicated to my views and experiences of the world. Isn’t it? Who cares? What makes me a pundit worthy of your ear? (See 10/18 post on Notes on the Revival for more on narcissism and creation). Yet again, littering friends’ inboxes with email travelogues is even more so. At least here you’ve come voluntarily to hear my musings. Another reason for my hesitance is that once posted, ideas and opinions appear far more concrete than they are in reality. I prefer a more impermanent, fluid, view of thoughts, but maybe the conversational design of a blog will counteract that concern by allowing for discussion and revision, or perhaps it will enforce a greater care in choice of comments! So anyway, here we go… Sujata’s Porridge begins. Tallyho!

I like to think it would only be egotistical to share my views if:
1. I insisted my views were unique, and
2. I was separate from everyone else.
But they aren't and I'm not.
Good points. Another friend made an analogy of a blog being a scrap book sitting open on the coffee table, for anyone to read if they chose or not if they don't. Viewing it in that manner, it occurs to me that keeping ideas, thoughts and experiences private could be just as self-centered, since the motivation for doing so would likely be driven by ego.
